With the establishment of the Bidhannagar College in 1984 the Department of History began its journey in a small building at premises no BF-142, Salt Lake City. Being an honours degree college it aims to become a centre of excellence under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. The Dept of History is the inseperable part of the college. There are five full time posts to cater to the demands of the students. It flourished well under Calcutta University. From 2008 the college affiliated to the newly established West Bengal State University, Barasat. Apart from taking regular classes we take tutorial classes for the betterment of weaker students. We take class tests at regular intervals to maintain academic standards. To develop healthy relationship between teachers and students we arrange parent-teachers meeting. We undertake educational tours to make the subject more living. Lastly we motivate students for higher studies so that they can make us proud by establishing themselves in the society.
