Department of Anthropology, Bidhannagar College was initiated in the year 2009 (Session 2009-2010) offering 3 Year Undergraduate Anthropology (Honours) Programme. The department was initiated with 4 Teaching Posts with 1 Teacher in position and 5 students took admission in the first year. The Department has an advanced biological anthropology laboratory and an enriched seminar library. The department conducts fieldwork in a tribal / caste village in the 3rd year of the curriculum providing students exposure in real life settings.
At Present the department has 7 teaching posts with all 7 teachers in position. The teaching strength of the department is a blend of experience and youth. The teachers are continuously engaged in academic activities undertaking research projects, participating in national and international seminars and publications in journals of repute. Apart from the academic activities the faculties have administrative experience both in the level of higher education department as well as college administrative affairs. Till date 4 batch has successfully completed the Anthropology Undergraduate programme and proceeded to Post Graduation in different Universities across the country like Delhi University, Central University of Hyderabad, University of Calcutta, Pondicherry University, Punjab University , Chandigarh, West Bengal State University, Barasat. Two of our alumni are presently continuing Ph.D. programme in Tata Institute of Social Science (Mumbai) and SAARC University (New Delhi) after qualifying UGC – NET Examination.
